Studio Policy.

The following lists the policies by which we offer private lessons in our studio. Please read them carefully and contact us if you have any questions.

1. Our Commitment to Students

  • We provide a comprehensive music education, covering a range of styles, techniques, and creative opportunities.

  • Lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals, interests, and abilities.

  • Students develop strong reading, technical, and creative skills, with opportunities to explore composition and improvisation.

2. Lesson Scheduling & Attendance

  • Lesson fees secure a fixed weekly time slot during term time.

  • Fees do not guarantee a lesson every week; they secure the allocated time slot on a specific day and time.

  • Lessons take place during school term time, following Harrow Council term dates. Lessons are not held on bank holidays unless specially arranged.

  • Students must arrive on time, with all required materials, and be prepared for their lesson.

3. Cancellations & Make-Up Credits

  • Cancellations must be made at least 7 hours before the lesson start time to be eligible for a make-up credit.

  • Make-up credits are capped at a maximum of 2; they do not accumulate beyond this limit.

  • Cancellations must be made via the student portal. Cancellations via text, email, or phone will not be accepted, as these may not be picked up in time.

  • Make-up credits are valid for 30 days and can be used to book an available lesson slot through the student portal.

  • If a teacher is unavailable due to illness or other reasons, a make-up credit will be issued.

  • If unable to attend in person, students may take the lesson online via Zoom.

4. Fees & Payment

  • Lesson fees are spread over 11 months (excluding August, which is the school summer holiday).

  • Payment is only accepted via autopay on the student portal.

  • Fees are fixed and cover the reservation of the weekly time slot. They are not based on attendance or the number of lessons received.

  • Late payments beyond 7 days will incur a 10% late fee.

5. Student & Parent Responsibilities

  • Students must practice on an appropriate instrument. Acoustic pianos should be less than 50 years old and regularly tuned. Digital pianos must have a solid wooden stand, at least one pedal, an adjustable padded bench, and fully weighted keys.

  • Students are expected to complete assigned practice and follow weekly instructions.

  • Parents and students can track progress and manage lessons through the student portal.

6. Waiting List

  • When a lesson slot becomes available, students on the waiting list will be notified via email.

  • Interested students must apply within 48 hours of the notification.

  • The student highest on the waiting list who applies within the timeframe will be offered the slot.

7. Exams

  • Students must have been learning with us for at least one year before being entered for an exam.

  • Exams require significant preparation, and students may need extra lessons.

  • All students must sit 1-2 mock exams before the actual exam to ensure they are fully prepared.

  • We offer entry into ABRSM and RSL exams when students meet the necessary requirements.

8. Performances

  • Due to teacher commitments, we do not currently offer formal recitals. Students are encouraged to participate in school or community performances.

9. Terminating Lessons

  • To discontinue lessons, written notice via email is required.

  • Lessons will continue until the end of the monthly payment cycle. Refunds will not be issued.

10. Contacting Teachers

  • Parents and adult students can arrange a call via email to discuss any matters related to their education.

  • Calls or texts should not be made after 8 pm.
